Yes it is day and night. I grew up in Orinda, the first oak forest on the Contra Costa side of the tunnel. Essentially 100% of all kids graduated high school and 98% continued on to college.

Two cities further east, Walnut Creek and Concord, are more middle class white families and fewer graduate from high school or go to college. The numbers decline further and become more like Oakland further east in the area of poorer white families like Antioch and Martinez.

What was always fun was our Congressman in Orinda was Ron Dullums as Orinda part of the same Congressional district as as Oakland. Dramatically different demographics but very similar liberal politics.
