Chirac Issues Statement for African Nations without Consent
Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003

The French are so determined to stop the United States from attacking Iraq, they are even claiming -- falsely -- that some African nations are joining with them in their anti-U.S. crusade.

This past Friday, French President Jacques Chirac used a summit of African leaders meeting in Paris to continue his jihad against America.

According to the New York Times, French officials distributed at the summit what they said was a joint statement on the Iraq question.

"There is an alternative to war," the document said, adding that the leaders were expressing their support for continued inspections and for substantially reinforcing the "human and technical capacities" of the inspectors.

More than 50 African leaders attended -- but some were aghast at the French "joint statement."

President Paul Kagame of Rwanda was surprised to see his country affixed to the Joint Statemment.

Kagame told the Times he was never consulted about it.

Obviously, the French believe African nations shouldn't be thinking for themselves.

Last week, Chirac called former East bloc nations "childish" for supporting the U.S. in its stance against Iraq -- and he even threatened to block these nations from membership in the European Union if they defied France.

So much for democracy.

Postscript: The Times reported that Mr. Chirac brushed off criticism about the invitation of Zimbabwe's president, Robert Mugabe, who was allowed to attend despite a travel ban imposed on him by the European Union because of allegations of human rights abuses. Mugabe has been allowing his regime to systematically murder white farmers and has crushed democratic opposition in Zimbabwe.
