No smart candidate is going to want to tackle this mess at this time, by default you get the other kind.
Tells you a lot about Davis, doesn't it? He was the only one who knew the mess was there and ran anyway. If we offered him a million a year to be a male prostitute, he'd resign in a flash and take it.

Simon said he wasn't getting involved in a Republican effort to recall Davis, but he didn't rule out trying to replace the governor if the recall makes it to the ballot. Recall efforts have been attempted against every California governor in the past 30 years but none has collected the needed signatures
And no previous guv has been disliked like Davis either. The ONLY reason he won was because Simon was his opponent. And he engineered that.

Start praying. You're going to need divine intervention for your stupidity to prevail this time.
