The administration may base some troops in Iraq for a few years to provide stabilty and maintain territorial integrity during rebuilding, but that's about it. Once the US achieves its strategic goals, most of the forces will leave, say within a year.

If they are serious about that, then the elastic phrase "leave as soon as possible" probably means 20-30 years, because that's how long it would take.
