I commend you for having an article which mentioned the man in your thread header.

I also don't believe the US allegation that there is a terrorist link, due to the inherent contradictions of what Saddam represents and what OBL represents.

Re.the contradictions between Saddam and the Islamist terrorists - its true Iraq is a largely secular country but otoh Saddam makes a show of being a devout Muslim - having a koran written in his blood. Furthermore, they have in common an enemy (us), the greatest unifier of all. OBL did list Iraqi sanctions second in his list of complaints justifying his fatwa calling on Muslims to kill Americans everywhere. Furthermore, we know Zarqawi and his agents have spent time in Baghdad which could not have happened without Saddam's approval. In fact, Zarqawi was in Baghdad when Zarqawi's men murdered USAID official Lawrence Foley in Amman. The arch-terrorist Abu Nidal (real name Sabri Al-Banna), was sheltered in Baghdad for years until last year when he "committed suicide" by shooting himself in the head four times (apparently with Bush deciding to get tought with Saddam after 9/11 he realized Nidal's presence would be used against him). Saddam pays a cash bounty to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers some of whom have killed American citizens in Israel (and not just by accident apparently - the Hebrew university cafeteria bombing targeted an area of the cafeteria known to be frequently used by Americans visiting or attending the institution). Saddam has been one of the providers of money and arms to Hezbollah, which has committed several big attacks against American targets in the Mideast - including our embassy in Lebanon - bombed twice, the US Marine barracks in 1983, the murder of a Navy diver on a hijacked plane in 1985. Saddam has been supporting terrorists who have been attacking us for decades now. The information connecting Saddam to terrorism in Sec. of State Powells address to the UN is buttressed by all this other already publicly available information.

So your opinion that that it's possible to have talks with him and actually gain his assistance in tracking down the real terrorists: Al Qaeda is just wishful thinking.
