The official position of the govt is to actually increase the numbers of GP's. While the previous government legitimized Nurse Practitioners and created places for them in the educational institutions where they are to be trained, this govt is not trying very hard to actually have them integrated into the system (lack of money). Governments tend to placate physicians. On the other hand there is an attempt at creating family networks, a natural place for nurse practioners to be, however, so far the formation has been lack lustre. Many (not all) MD's in this province tend to see themselves as "lone wolves" and do not want to be part of networks.
