I suspect Marcos wasn't speaking of "occupied Mexico" in any terms resembling humor or irony. I'm guessing he's speaking of the ""Nation of Aztlan,free Aztlan,free Amistad" or other like movement(s) to remove all of the US which ,is of a greatly Hispanic population to either Mexico or another separate nation/state.

I'd bet to him it involves no humor & most of us in the SW US are at least taking note of their rhetoric even if we don't agree & though it denies much of history: the Louisiana Purchase,Treaty of Goliad,Annexation of Texas, the Gadsten Purchase,Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, the Compromise of 1850,& perhaps even The Panic of 1873.
