What I meant was "buy VIX 50, sell VIX 20" as judging by the VIX performance in this bear market during the past two years, those levels seem to have marked important intermediate-term tops and bottoms for the past couple years.

Of course if we have a 1987-style crash the 50 figure would be too low to buy, as it got over 100 then for several days.
