Canadian dollar soars on rate speculation, stocks ease by Allen Wan
The Canadian dollar hit a fresh two-year high against the greenback Monday on hopes that the central bank will raise interest rates perhaps as early as next week. The loonie was currently standing at 67.09, up 0.64 from Friday's closing level. Stocks, meanwhile, were down in the dumpster, paralleling movements on Wall Street where the Dow and Nasdaq got hammered on worries over Iraq as the U.S. unveiled a new resolution in the United Nations that could pave the way for war. The S&P/TSX Composite fell 57 points, or 0.9 percent, to 6,500.
