Those are reasonably factual kinds of assertions. What troubles you about them?
I think, if you end by being wheeled on the down ramp to hell, your punishment should be to set and watch continuous showings of "God's and Generals." Now it you want to see some "Christian Warriors," there's your Movie!
I have spent a lot of time in the last 8 years dancing with the daughters of "white southern evangelicals," and let me tell you something. They are nice people, and no more prejudiced than any similar group of "White Liberals." They don't holler as much about their love for blacks, and exhibit a lot of "Liberal Guilt," but they spend a lot more time holding hands in fellowship with blacks than the Liberals ever do. You tend to ignore just how evangelical the Blacks are.
That is the reason Bobby Duvall made "Apostle." He wanted to show what the evangelical life was really like. I think what they believe is nonsense, and they think I am misguided, but I would rather socialize with them than with a lot of Big City Wisenheimers I know.
So don't slander the name of the anti-affirmative action movement with "Racism." It is not true. Their are racists everywhere, in every movement. When I was younger, and my Atheism more strident, I used to bad mouth Evangelicals. Hell, I went to their Churches in the South as a kid, and I suspect you did also. But I have grown to learn that they are a lot better people individually than I thought.
You have the bad habit of slandering things on the right that you don't like as either "Racist" or "McCarthyism." I get the first slander from Rascal, and the second one from you. |
