They had the ability (and "right") to kill you and they didn't, too! A good thing, I guess.
You guess? I'll keep that in mind.

Actually, another rule comes into play in that situation- -and that is the one that requires boats to take any possible measures to avoid collision. If a boat fails to do so and that can be proven, it can be disqualified and is legally liable even though it had right of way.

But it's simpler than that of course. Rather simple application of reasoning and morality says that yacht racing is just a game and you don't kill people over games. I've been in the same position as that other boat and did the same thing- -do what has to be done to avoid destroying another boat and probably killing someone.

Our government has said (for now) that they prefer to go to war as a coalition endeavor--not hard to figure...
And at this point that's the same as opting out.

I wasn't suggesting anything about any solutions for the French problem. If I made a point...I doubt if it will be understood.
State it plainly. Maybe it will be.

At best, modern French culture is maybe 2 centuries old. The world survived without it before that. In another 2 centuries, it will have changed beyond recognition. Somehow I think the planet will keep spinning. The world does not revolve around France, in spite of what they think or want. Everybody else has to ride this horse of change, like it or not. Frankly, I fail to see that everyone else has an obligation to stop in their tracks because the French are cowering in the closet again.

There is a fear, however, that any break up of Canada will lead to the inevitable erosion toward American assimilation. Much as most Canadians respect the United States...they do not necessarily wish to model American culture.
Then why would they choose to be "assimilated" by us? We are not the Borg. We are not going to force it on you at gunpoint. About 190 years ago there were shots exchanged between the US and what would become the Canadian Confederation. But that was the last time. What we have now is the longest undefended border in the world.

Frankly, if an American politician were to suggest aggression against Canada, I think he would be handed his head. And that includes the President. And that's how it should be.

It is facts like this (if they are facts) which need to be brought out and aired to the world.
This goes back a ways, but remember that Iraqi nuclear reactor the Israelis bombed? Know who built it? The French.
Here's what I could find on the web about that 60 Minutes program:
cbsnews.com

You make your own bed and you lie in it: French, English, Russian, or ET.
There's more than that involved. The UN is the only place where 2-bit countries like Vanatu or Trinidad-Tobago or (need I say it) France can poke a stick in the of the great powers and get away with it. So they do.

France is quite good at rousing the rabble, in case you haven't noticed.

Or maybe you have. They've had more than a little to do with creating your Quebec problem.
