Your points are very valid(except for the ignorant part).
Totally different cultures I agree. How much time have you spent in Iraq? Ever try to speak out against the government while you were there?
I've never been to the Arab world & am not so naive as to assume that it will be easy, but I do believe that these cultures subvert their people through cruel & dictatorial means.
I do believe that if women were given moderately equal rights & the people in general given some form of power that it would be tough to revert to dictatorship.

Afghanistan? Would you really rather have the Taliban? Ask the average Afghani woman if she would like the Taliban to return. Have you been there?

Haiti? I was under the misguided impression that our intervention there was considered successful.

I have struggled with my decision to support this war. I hate George Bush in general & his Christian conservative backers as a group. I know he is going in for the oil(but I believe he will still push for a Democracy to assuage some doves). I do believe Iraq, being more secular than it's neighbors, may be able to sustain a Democracy.

I have been to Vietnam & used to worry that this is a repeat, but I also saw that the people in Vietnam were not afraid to say what they think. Not a Democracy, but free in many ways.
