It's funny how we read things so differently. I believe we fought for the liberation of France so that they would be free & have the ability to speak their mind. Now when they disagree with us(myself as well) we say they don't have that right? The following paragraph was the key for me:

"The American soldiers who came to France back then came to give us back our freedom and dignity," says Marc Lefevre, mayor of Sainte-Mere-Eglise, the first Norman town freed by U.S. paratroopers. Washington, he says, "can't now tell us 60 years later: 'We're taking back that freedom -- your freedom of opinion -- and do as we say.' "
