ExypnoTech Introduces SmartPaper RFID Product Line

HOHENBRUNN/MUNICH, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 25, 2003-- ExypnoTech GmbH, a subsidiary of NanoPierce Technologies, Inc., Denver, USA, (OTCBB:NPCT)today announced that it will debut its new SmartPaper(TM) RFID product line at two international trade fairs during the coming months.

ExypnoTech will have an exhibition stand and will present a workshop on the Company's latest innovations for high-volume RFID tag assembly, at the Smart Labels USA 2003 Exhibition & Conference from March 24th to 27th in Boston, Massachusetts. ExypnoTech will also attend the leading European exhibition for Identification and RFID Technology in Wiesbaden, Germany, from May 6th to 8th sharing a booth with AIM (Association for Automatic Identification and Data Capture Technologies).

The SmartPaper(TM) RFID labels will be distributed by ExypnoTech under its pending trademark, SmartPaper(TM).

SmartPaper(TM) RFID labels are printed on a new type of special paper using a customized ink jet printer developed by ExypnoTech, which is able to simultaneously read and personalize RFID devices. To achieve this, ExypnoTech integrates its recently announced ET-R1 reader into a leading medium-capacity commercial printer. Its reader modules (see press release dated February 18, 2003--ExypnoTech Expands Product Portfolio with Low-Cost RFID Readers) are compatible with ISO standards 15693 and 14443 and can read and write RFID tags from Texas Instruments (Tag-it), Philips (I-Code, SLI), Infineon (my-d) and ST-Microelectronics (LRI). Modified printer drivers will allow easy integration of automatic identification into existing applications, such as logistics. Initially, Microsoft Windows 98/ME/XP drivers will be offered, with additional drivers for Linux available by the middle of the year.

SmartPaper(TM) RFID products are considered to be ideal for RFID customers, who initially plan to personalize relatively small quantities of labels and tags. In time, many of these projects and applications are expected to lead to significant growth in RFID component demand.

Michael E. Wernle, President and CEO, said: "In the current RFID market there are a small number of very large projects and a large number of smaller projects, for which our new, SmartPaper(TM) RFID products are specifically designed. While we remain fully committed to large projects in partnership with leading label manufacturers such as Schreiner LogiData (see press release of June 24, 2002), our new products will enable ExypnoTech to also serve a large number of smaller customers. ExypnoTech is positioning itself to be a full provider of component solutions for RFID system integrators."
