OT: I agree with your long term positive view. However, my concern is that coming off recent unprecedented highs may result in a mirror image at the other end.

Yup, patience is a virtue but time is running out for many of the older baby boomers who may not be coming back to the market and they are the folks with da money. On the other hand, 401k and IRAs have to put money somewhere.
