Well Moses and Joshua are the poster children for God-sanctioned genocide aren't they? In context of a then Christless history wherein God spoke directly to Moses and Joshua, we see why this genocide was not some Osama bin Ladenesque determination to murder fokes just because he read a general command to murder fokes in a book. God Himself told Moses to act in a specific instance. The command was not general and applicable throughout all time, codified in some holy book as law against all non-Jews. The Crusades were patterned after Joshua's crusade. That they were "patterned" after Joshua still don't be making it a reasonable case that God or the Bible approved them. The command to Joshua was specific and clearly applied to that historic circumstance. It was not the sort of general commands we see in the Koran. Hitler often appealed to Catholic anti-Semitism to justify his acts Hitler also appealed to raw heathenism too. Big friggin' deal. Monsters often use whatever tools are available to them. and the Catholic church tacitly complied. No proof that God Himself told them to comply and no reasonable evidence in the Bible that such complicity was commanded. Big friggin' deal. Christianity is perfect, but many individual Christians are still growing in the truth. Indeed, while many Catholics were tacitly complying with Hitler, vast numbers of other Christians across all of Europe, including Catholics, were pressing against Hitler. Many lost their lives protecting Jews. Others lost everything but their lives. At the same time the Catholic Ustasha was running it's own death camps in Yugoslavia, exterminating mostly Protestants. See above. And then there's that thing about Christians enslaving and trading an entire race of people for 400 years or so right here in the new world. See above.
