Mike, just want to point out that the reason for China to call those troops under the name of "volunteer army" was because the western forces in Korea were technically a UN "police" force. To avoid officially declaring war on US, Britain, France and other UN members, China sent forces in the name of People's Volunteer Army (PVA) instead of PLA (People's Liberation Army).
