I think we should get ourselves off our Middle Eastern oil addiction and leave the Middle East to the camels and sand dunes. That would save us a lot of conflict with radical Islam. If we aren't there to iritate them and support repressive regimes, then why should they hate and attack us? But, we're moving in the opposite direction. We are taking over the Middle East country by country so we can have a firm grip on their oil supplies.

If we had embarked upon an sustained effort to dramatically reduce our dependence on Middle Eastern oil a decade ago, I'm sure we'd be there by now. Hybrid auto technology could reduce our dependence on ME oil by at least half. But, oil company profits and interests come first.
