LPS5 - Your selfish group would allow people to go hungry, while cutting taxes for the rich.
What "group" do I belong to? And that outcome is possible, but unlikely.
News for you - the majority of people in this country will not let this happen. They will wake up, and throw out the selfish and greedy who only want to line their own pockets.
The top 0.5% of American society pays 31% of all income taxes collected. They also own most of the businesses that contribute, in many ways, to the capital gains tax. Throw those people out and the companies go with them. Not only that, but the state loses its bread and butter revenue.
Now are you sure that's what would happen, LOL?
You live in the society, and you benefit from being here.
How do allege that I benefit from government-instituted welfare programs?
We will not allow people to go hungry here.
When you say "we," who exactly are you speaking for?
And no, the U.S. doesn't allow people to go hungry; instead, we put them into a vicious circle of dependence and perceived entitlement. Great alternative, that.
It is not socialism to help people.
No, it certainly isn't. It is socialism, however, to redistribute wealth, which is that welfare taxation does.
The right always throws out the term socialism. Do you know what it means? It means the govt. owns the means of production, i.e. all of the companies in the nation.
There are gradients of collectivism. And if the government has the right to take some - at this point, almost half when all is said and done - of my earnings and redistribute them, what does that say about property rights and statism?
No North American or European country is currently "Socialist".
Per your laughably black and white interpretation, no.
You can be a capitalist, and still have a heart (and soul) -
Sure you can. But that's a moot point when the government takes a cut forcibly, isn't it.
...although the current Repubs have largely been taken over by a group of people who seem to have neither - which is why I stopped voting Republican.
Yawn.
I hope you reflect on your own selfishness in your post, and wake up.
Selfishness is, perhaps, the ultimate virtue. I'm awake, are you?
As someone else said, they are approving $ 15-30 billion for Turkey for this war, and you would deny a few billion a year to feed many poor US children?
That other person isn't terribly bright, so you might want to reconsider using that post to lever off of. And I'm not big on either choice, but if I had to choose, I'd certainly choose paying Turkey for use of their space over feeding strangers' children.
That is amazing...
I'm not surprised you feel that way. :-)
