i think from a functional standpoint, we are on the same page. i shy away from the government conspiracy model and simply recognize that jamming the futures does occur on a regular basis. certainly there are market conditions that predispose towards success of this tactic. yesterday is a prime example.

Is a "few, well placed dollars on futures" that winds up moving the market manipulative, though? Intentionally, or by effect?

intentional, no doubt. the explanation, as we both realize, is far more complicated than Fed or governmental intervention. they're not that smart.
