How do these guys keep a straight face? As anyone who has dealt with data knows, sometimes it's wise to prune "outliers" to get a better idea of the underlying distribution. But "tinkering" with the data is always hazardous, and fraught with consequences. In this case, since Social Security is tied to the CPI, to artificially reduce the value is certainly unethical, and should be criminal.
