i believe 9/11 has forced our hand.....we simply cannot take the risk that he can start or continue to arm terrorists who, though claim no allegiance to saddam or the other way around, are willing to accept his largesse (ie... payoffs to palestinian suicide bombers families)...

agreed 100 % even without the "terrorism" aspect of it, Saddam on his own right is a madman and warrants to take him out.

during the cold war with the former soviet union, it was not driven by insane religious extremism....

certainly the drive was there for world domination, but underlying that was the normal human drive for self preservation.

understood... but some of the Communist leaders were equally crazy... different motivation, but just as stupid and mad... I mean they destroyed the entire Soviet continent and satellite countries in order to fight the US... look at Castro... he continues with his stupid crusade while he starves his people to death... pure unadulterated freaking EGO of ONE individual...

--for that matter.. no different than the friendly extreme religious right (i.e. Tom Delay and cronies) they spewed foam like rabid dogs during the Clinton charade---

they must be taken out and fear must be instilled in those people who would entertain the idea of killing americans and aussies and brits and jews and anyone is deemed "infidels" and in accordance to their "jihad"

look at the Israel experience... do you think Palestinian bastards have any fear ? for one... it is easy to "buy" these people because for starters, they are destitute... so in reality... What do they have to lose ?

saddam has the wherewithal to potentially arm the terrorists to the extent that they will yet again bring destruction on our soil.

I am not disagreeing with you in the basic premise. I am just saying that what is at stake is much larger than an act of deterance and revenge.

and WE NEED to be SMARTER than what has been proposed...

oil or no oil indeed

this is all about regime change and WMDs.

here is where we disagree....

It is about world POWER and INFLUENCE.

not since the loss of power by the oil cartel countries the Muslim countries have been able to gather the momentum that they have recently found...

This time the enemy is far smarter and like I said, they have the means to change the balance of power...

which is the reason that I suggest a different approach... (that does not mean you still strive to take Saddam (and any other known terrorist.... --effectively and secretly--) indeed... In Saddam's case, you may have some help from some of these countries....

But the main thrust should be based on trade and commerce... not bombs....
