"I know the true motives lie in oil"...what is the source of this "knowledge?" Question: If the motive (for war) is oil, why didn't we take Iraq in '91 or seize Kuwait since we already had 500,000 troops on the ground? Answer: It isn't about oil and it never was. It's about respect for human life, particularly American human life, which is the first and foremost job of our federal government.

Your second point about paying for the war is even more simple. We can and should do what we could never do with a conquered Japan or Germany: seize state assets (oil) and use the proceeds to pay for all war and occupation costs. This would be a bargain compared to the Marshall Plan. Plus, I think it would be a hoot for the US to become a member of OPEC as well.

As for "doing this" alone...so what? Saddam Hussein remains in power today BECAUSE of the UN, not in spite of it. The resolution in '91 did not authorize anything beyond removing Iraqi forces from Kuwait. I am actually somewhat hopeful we have to go it alone or with only a few active supporters and are not hamstrung by the UN. The UN is and has always been a sewer of anti-Americanism...move it to Paris or Berlin and let the whiners have it completely! We've already had 50+ years of headaches with added security/police costs, espionage, deadbeat diplomats, etc.

All the above is just my mild-mannered, good-natured opinion--MK--
