"enables OBL increase..." Yes. This is a good argument. More Al Qaeda recruits. It does give me pause.

Why?? I'm not particularly convinced that Saddam's defeat will create more Islamic militancy. If anything, it should send the message to such militants that they had better watch their step and not cross the line that draws US attention to their operations, lest they be targeted themselves.

One thing folks should all remember, as evidenced by the news we've seen over the past 50 years.. Arabs respect force. They respect it because it is the primary means by which they have ruled and interacted with one another for centuries. Their entire culture, to a certain extent, is a reflection of the particularly harsh and squalid lives they have led in this desolate region. And until oil was discovered 60+ years ago, they were primarily tribes engaging in raiding, banditry, and inter-regional trade...

The US will be respected so long as it shows strength and fairness. Because as it stands now, these same Arabs are ruled through corrupt application of force and intimidation by their autocratic governments.
