I'm roughly contemporary with you, and in the mid-fifties, baseball was my life. If women existed then, they escaped my attention-:)
I was the classic Midwestern introvert. I listened or watched 3000+ sporting events between 1955 and 1967. Growing up in Kansas City it was the likes of Wilt Chamberlain, Roger Maris, Gale Sayers, & Jim Ryun. --not all baseball--- but it was hero worship at its best.
It took me a while to figure out the natural order of the universe.
