I'll actually take women as well. I know you are joking around about my "men and money" post. The English language does not have a word that combines both sexes---"person" won't do. I thought about my post since I made it and think I will list a series of "Quick Fixes" for the system. Something for us to discuss while "Waiting for Godet." 1) Lengthen the school day and year back to what it was in the '50s. Ya can't teach em when they are not there. 2) Go back to the school discipline of the '50s. Isolate troublemakers from the classroom and expel them if they don't shape up. The needs of the majority to learn outweigh the desire to succeed with everyone. The situation is desperate. 3) Structural changes? Strip civil service protection from the School Bureaucracy and the Teacher's Unions. Make it possible to fire both Teachers and Principals quickly who do not shape up. Allow the system to hire people with Degrees without the present "Teaching Credentials." Suggestion number (3) is the reason I know things have to get worse first. :>)
