We'd have to proceed to show our committment by rebuilding Iraq, and even then, we'd probably have to take out at least Iran, Syria, and Saudi Arabia to start making real progress.

Nonsense. Iraq will rebuild itself. They're an advanced society with an educated middle class, the second largest supply of oil in the world, and a great infrastructure which will be largely untouched by the war.

While Syria will continue to be a problem, it is clear that both Iran and the Saudis are at least starting to show signs of interest in democracy. This is a snowball that very well may start to build very rapidly.

I'd recommend you go back and read this post from earlier tonight:

It suggests that the Middle East may well become an economic powerhouse -- perhaps even moreso than the West.

We're talking trillions of dollars in expenditures here, and still no guarantee.

What are you talking about? WE'RE not going to spend "trillions"!!! Hell, I'm not sure what you think is going on, but this is NOT the Marshall Plan.

Perhaps not, but in theory, government programs have the most potential for maximum efficiency

Do you know how absurd this sounds? You can't point to one government program that has been run with efficiency, yet you want to turn over the biggest single sector of our economy to government? Does this really make sense to you?
