<<has anyone consistently made money trading options (in any form) over a longer period of time?...

I don't know about all the exotic option strategies (some which are very viable) but if you are talking about simply speculating by buying puts or calls, I doubt it. There was a controversy many years ago in Barron's where a market maker on the CBOE said he had never known any retail trader who made money buying puts and calls over an extended period of years. And take a look at the Hulbert Investment Digest which ranks the effectiveness of newsletter writers. The option newsletter writers are the worse and have lost the most money. That should tell you something right there. Some of the biggest names in the options business have the most dismal trading records imaginable. If there is anyone out there who has a documented multi-year trading record buying puts and calls (real money, real brokerage statements) I would love to know and I can assure you the managed money mavens, book publishers and magazine editors would beat a path to your door.
