GT, the author does not assert that the big 3 retained control of their plants once war broke out. I seriously doubt they did and the author conveniently side steps this issue. German industry was quite capable even without the US plants. Obviously, in hindsight it was a mistake but it is up to the government to decide with whom we should trade not the private sector. mike
