Visible support from Iraq? Oh it's far from visible. It's so far from visible that our agencies hunting for it cannot find it. Saudi policy CAN compare to Iraq. Saudis are deathly afraid of militant muslims- that's why they supported Iraq in its war against Iran. They didn't want the Ayatollah to have the waterway that was disputed in that war- and neither did Kuwait (and several other ME nations not run by Mullahs). The Saudis number one priority is to stay in power, and the fundamentalist Muslims who would like to establish a religious state headed by Mullahs, pose an extreme threat to them.

You were perhaps unaware that the Kuwaitis and Saudis using Iraq as there proxy in the Iran and Iraq war helped to drive that country into a crippling amount of debt. It was because of that debt that Iraq invaded Kuwait (after we had said we were not interested in problems in the region). Saddam took this to mean he could settle his debt problem in a military fashion.

He is not likely to do anything on a grand scale since he never has before. If you understand the history of the region everything he has done has been fairly predictable.

You can pretend he is Germany, but he isn't. But please, present your case for how Iraq is like preWWII Germany. Please pay particular attention to the resources and industrical capacity of Germany, and their labor force when you make your comparison. If possible use specific comparisons.
