Mr David Stone reports
The planned drilling for the 1997 phase I exploration program has been
successfully completed at the Fort a la Corne diamond project. The Fort a
la Corne kimberlite cluster is one of the largest in the world, containing
71 kimberlite bodies.
The drilling program consisted of two rotary and three reverse circulation
airblast under-ream (RCA/UR) drillholes totalling 1,153.7 metres. A rotary
hole was drilled into each of previously untested kimberlite targets 605
and 612. The RCA/UR drillholes were laid out to further evaluate kimberlite
bodies 150, 176 and 220 which are considered, along with a few additional
bodies, to contain more than 100 million tonnes each and have the greatest
economical potential on the basis of available information.
A total of 14 microdiamond (MiDa) samples were composited from drillhole
grab sample material collected on a continual basis at regular intervals.
These MiDa samples have been consigned to the Saskatchewan Research Council
in Saskatoon for diamond recovery analysis. Corresponding minibulk samples
are now being shipped to South Africa for processing at the DeBeers
macrodiamond recovery facilities. Results for the MiDa analysis are
expected to be received soon.
The kimberlite intersections and tonnages recovered along with the number
of MiDa and minibulk samples collected are summarized below. Total retained
wet tonnes of minibulk samples collected is 83.867 which represent 138.693
dry tonnes of kimberlite drilled. These kimberlite intersections confirmed
the company's expectations based on ground geophysical models and previous
drilling results.
