Hi Steven -

With respect to the Philippines situation, you are absolutely right. The US administration did not provide cover to the Philippines administration.

If I were to speculate, I might take offense at your assertion (and the assertion of the person linked by Tekboy) that the area is in such a state that they could and should (two different assessments) get away with the most arrant lies about US activities without ruffling feathers.

It may be that the administration doesn't want to lie.

Or, on the other hand, it may be that they would be perfectly happy to lie, but don't realize that it's called for.

Dubya is reviled for being a Bible-thumping Holy Roller.

Maybe he'd rather tell the truth, and let the chips fall etc., than lie.

Just a thought.
