People here write to other people. There's an element of peer review there. Reading blogs is like peeping at somebody's version of intellectual autoeroticism. That may be worthwhile if the individual in question is fairly exceptional, but it's not generally my cup of tea.

I don't think that's a fair assessment, Steven. You cannot look at each blog in isolation. The blogosphere is nothing if not peer-reviewed. Readers comment on posts, and bloggers link to posts and comment to each other. Any post that the blogosphere finds really striking will ignite a kind of richochet effect as it will get linked to and commented on in a hundred different blogs within a day. This linkage effect provides an on-going rating system for the blogosphere.
