I was just in England a few months ago and paid $6.00 per gallon for petrol/gasoline, because they have such high taxes on their petroleum products. Certainly, the American economy could afford to absorb modestly higher oil prices. If we were so concerned with Saddam controlling so much oil, we should have prevented the first Gulf War from happening in the first place. We knew he intended to invade Kuwait. American officials even said after the war that they thougt he wouldn't take over all of Kuwait and would stop at the oil fields along the border. Also, the British prevented an invasion of Kuwait by Iraq in the early 1960s by sending troops to Kuwait. Why didn't we and the British do the same in 1990?
