I estimate that in about 2-3 weeks the US will have enough force in the area to go. It costs money to keep all those troops and all that equipment over there. The sooner this is done, the cheaper it can be done.

And the US is not the only side getting ready. So is Iraq. The more time they are allowed to prepare defensive positions, the better they will be and the costlier to take.

Support in the US and in the world in general is eroding and quickly. At some point it is quite possible the peaceniks may put enough pressure on congresscritters to get the war authorization repealed. Then what? Bush can be impeached if he goes ahead without it.

And it must be done before January 2005. If this matter is still hanging fire then, Bush will not be re-elected and we will have a peacenik President. End of story.

Another matter is weather. The US military must be ready for chemical and biological attacks by Saddam. Even though doing that will be worth his life, he will still do and he will find troops and officers willing to carry out his orders even if it means war crimes trials for them. The protective gear needed against that sort of attack gets hot. The best time for attack is during winter and spring. That means soon. It does little good to attack if your troops are fainting because they are wearing those suits in 120 degree heat.
