In a clash (okay war) of civilizations it might help to know who your real friends are. Bush has no doubt never heard (he and his advisers admit he is not much of a reader) that King Fahd of Saudi Arabia said more than 20 years ago that Islam is incompatible with democracy. Thinking of Islam as "going democratic" is an oxymoron. Prince Whatshisname, Saudi Ambassador to the US told Chris Matthews of CNBC that the 2nd largest export after oil from his country is Wahabi Islam ( I heard THAT with my own ears). There are those in this country who will face a wake up call to reality soon. Not Cassandra here talking, just someone with a
recent exposure to Islam through their history and their "book" who thinks all this Sturm und Drang and wringing of hands is all jibbersih, but hey! it makes a market and a conversation. We ARE at war. Too bad it is not Saudi Arabia first (Mecca first)...then the rest. And by the way, where once in the country did we see a massive rally of Islamics in this country get together and unanimoulsy denounce 9/11? Why is it that EVERY time a muslim gets onto some media venue to espouse his/her views about the evil of al Qaeda that there is always some footnote, some parenthetical remark that we somehow brought it on ourselves. Why is it never mentioned where the "1967 borders" come from?....Syria, Jordan and Egypt's second attempt after 1948 to destroy Israel. Too bad for them that little one-eyed general Moshe Dayan? Why is it never mentioned that many Palestinians now living in Israel are either old ones or descendants of their predesessors
who answered the calls of the same three countries named above to come join the war to destroy Israel but were not taken back into their respective countries of origins. It is scary what one can learn reading the history of the area.
Oh, and a footnote of my own, it is in part about oil and guess what? We need it. Saudi Arabia has a lot more than the camel boy. And they actively export Islam, even to these very shores. This argument will continue even after the bombs begin to fall. I pray the shrub has the balls to keep going to Mecca.
