<<How do you make the connection between facts: (i.e. eat bad food that is prone to make you fat, OR put poison in your lungs --which will in all probability-- lead you to have cancer) both well backed up by scientific research...>>

First of all this is of course not true. Smoking duz increase your chances for getting cancer but it duzn't mean you will "probably" get it as a result. Many who eat what is perceived to be the most healthfull of diets and don't smoke still die of cancer.

<<An elitist idea"... only you know...>>

I shall splain it so you will know also.

Being an elitist clearly you are missing the point. It is NOT dumb to increase one's chance for cancer in exchange for the pleasures gained by indulgence. It is simply a choice that is not your's (or mine for that matter). Nowhere is it written that a long healthy life is the thing that we must all strive for at all costs. There are some among us who would value a short exciting life over a long boring one. They take risks. They are aware of the risks and do so for the perceived benefits. Are they dumb because you would not do so?

The problem here is that you take it as a given that everyone shares your value system. Twinkies may shorten your life span but some think they taste good. It's a trade off that some choose to take.

I might add that a healthy diet may not be so healthy after all...Considerable debate as to what is a"healthy" diet rages all the time. Science changes it's mind on this subject every generation or so.

With regards to smoking I have some very intelligent friends who smoke. I've spoken to them about it.They know the potential consequences. They enjoy it. They value this enjoyment to the point that they take the risk. For you categorize them as 'dumb' because they smoke an you don't is elitist.
