ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — An Al Qaeda operative on the FBI's most-wanted list was among three people arrested in a raid near Islamabad, a senior government official said Saturday.

He refused to identify the operative by name and spoke only on condition of anonymity.

The senior Al Qaeda operative is of Middle Eastern origin and was arrested along with another man of Middle Eastern origin and a Pakistani, Iftikar Ahmad, an interior ministry spokesman said.

The men were arrested Friday during a raid on their hide-out in nearby Rawalpindi, Ahmad said.

He said they were part of Usama bin Laden's terror network.

He said the Pakistani was believed to be linked to a local extremist group, but would not say which one. The Pakistani suspect, Abdul Qadoos, is believed to have received terrorist training in Afghanistan, according to intelligence officials.
