You are confusing preemption with defense. Defense is when the guy is already committing the crime. Preemption is when you suspect the guy might commit the crime. Big difference.

It's your moral duty to protect yourself.

But it's also your moral duty not to harm the innocent.

Don't confuse defense with preemption.
