<<Our immorality then weakens any moral case that we make now.>>

<<Is that selective enforcement? Maybe

Weakens our case further.>>

Those are determinations that each person must make for himself. I believe that while we may engage in selective enforcement of UN policy there are times that doing just that is in the globes best interest. Certainly enforcing a resolution where it applies to WMD is more critical and has far more impact than going after a country that violates a whaling law. I don't think that makes us less moral I think it makes us safer which should be the goal of all people on earth.

<<Now you see why the majority of the rest of the world opposes this attack which can cause 500,000 Iraqi casualties.>>

I'm not sure where the majority of the world falls on the subject. My first thought is I wonder if what you say is true and my second thought is I wonder if those opposed have an ulterior motive such as the French - who just want repayment of debt and the Russians - who want drilling rights.

My third thought (and probably most important) is assuming you're correct almost emboldens my opinion more. I say that because in most cases the majority is wrong. This has been proven time and time again. If you think I'm crazy then I might suggest you go out and start buying properties at todays prices. In 5 years come back to me and tell me what you can sell them for...or if you can sell them at all.

<<In an interconnected world, it is sheer folly to engage in an unjust and unpopular attack.>>

War is not about popularity. In most cases its about the have nots Vs. the haves. Furthermore I believe leadership must ignore popular belief as it tend to force you to do things that are not in the long term best interest of the very people you are leading. This will also be proven when we hang drug benefits on Social security which will be the final blow to a failed plan. While its a popular desire for today (like medicare in the 60's) it will ensure the failure and long term viabilitity which will hasten the bankruptcy of Social security. In short by bending to the popular demands of today we will destroy its future.

<<Turkey has apparently turned down $30 billion to aid on an attack on Iraq. If Iraq posed even the slightest threat to Turkey, would the Turks have turned down such an offer?>>

I believe this story has not fully played out. Don't jump the gun or you may find yourself trying to finish the race with a bullet in your leg.

<<In my opinion, this attack is immoral, unjust>>

And you are entitled to your opinion and should proudly and loudly voice it. That is your right as an American. I personally believe that by not dealing with this situation now we could be faced with an even uglier situation in a few short years from now. While avoiding war FEELS good today our kids may pay an even higher price down the road so we could FEEL good for a while. I don't know how this will play out but I don't want to explain to my son how we made his future less secure because we wanted to FEEL good. Feeling good and doing the right thing do not always go hand in hand.

<<inhumane and unnecessary>>

I don't know about the unnecessary stuff because I'm not a prophet but I think at inhumane only applies to how people treat dogs, cats and other animals. I'm not sure its possible for a human to be inhumane to another human though I think you can be inhuman.

<<May wisdom and humanity prevail>>

On that we agree. I just hope that the wisdom used takes into consideration whether the what kind of world we will be leaving to our kids and not just what feels right for today.
