You may think he is wants to "dominate the world," or it is "all about oil." You hint around about it, but you won't say it. Whatever it is, you won't give the man his due. Too bad.
Bill,
Let me say again where I am on this issue. I don't genuinely know what GWB's motives are. I speculate but that's all it is. My argument is that he leaves too much room for that speculation by the constant shifting of rationales. That's all.
And I should add, I, generally, don't go into the motives issues when I do my own analysis. I'm rather, far more interested, in the execution and consequences issues: whether they should pursue this policy, how they are pursuing it, what are the likely consequences, in a host of different arenas.
I'm willing to cede the point that should they get to a democratic, secular government in Iraq in our lifetime, they deserve credit for it. I just think that's such an unlikely occurrence that it can't be factored into the pluses and minuses of the invasion. |
