It certainly appears so. Which is why I retracted my original position.

Which I would agree with, but is hard to do due to the difficulties you pointed out.

This discussion has been illuminating because I have also had a parallel discussions with friends and acquaintances offline. It turns out that the more religious a person I discussed it with, the less they were willing to accept religion in schools unless it was their religion that was being presented. Most feared that exposure to other religions would take away from their own teachings. Given that I don't even believe in the Judea-Christian-Islamic view of deity to begin with, I found it rather strange that at times they could take me better than each other. After all, fundamentally Judaism is closer to Islam than to Eastern thoughts...then again, the common holy city between the 3 has been a cause of war rather than unity for many centuries...sigh.
