| I'd say in the greater scheme of things, we are much more likely to make things worse. I say that because Iraq hasn't actually done anything that endangers anyone outside of Iraq since the Kuwait war. The monarchs in the region are, for the most part, not averse to our interests, and even Iran has made overtures. We have much to lose in the region if we go to war, and what will we gain? The enmity of most of the people, the destabilization of regimes that are not hostile to us, and the *honor* of rebuilding Iraq, when we haven't yet done much for Afghanistan. I'd say we have enough irons in the fire, and too much at risk by going to war. I'm cautious by nature, and I don't like to make things worse by action. It's bad enough when things get worse by inaction, or by accident, but when you set out, at cost to yourself, and make them worse with effort, that is the very worst thing, imo. |
