The GOP wants to tag Kerry as a leftist, but not true. His roots are liberal but he's a tough war hero and he has changed a lot over the years, grown up and become more moderate. Maybe his partnerships with John McCain have helped. He also knows that post 9-11 Americans want to feel SAFE. So you wont see Kerry agreeing with the peace-marchers. He's tough on defense, inytelligence and homeland security. But not at the expense of our allies, economy and world reputation.
I just saw him speak and first-hand experience is he's a tough liberal on the environment and energy (which everyone should be in my opinion, a no-brainer to get off Arab oil permanently), moderate-liberal on social issues and moderate on the big ticket items like defense, social programs, Iraq, taxation. He's also a gun owner and a Vietnam War hero, has killed and tok three bullets, the most decorated on the Hill.
Plus he's pro small business, tougher corporate laws, tougher on tax evaders, pro technology, new economy jobs, working-class rights, while personally independent of the unions because he takes almost no special interest money and never has.
Kerry has it all because he can convince moderate independents and some conservatives to go with him. Vets love him for the most part for good reason. He's honest, brilliant, in no one's pocket and forward-looking. He's also an expert in foreign affairs, weapons systems, intelligence, the drug war, environmental issues, etc. He really does make Bush look like a moral, military and even physical midget.
Kerry also has about 750 million bucks through his wife, which may come in handy. Kerry is by far leading the democratic contendera at fundraising and is in my opinion a shoe-in, though actual voters now have to put him there.
Kerry is a tireless campaigner, knows the ganme and has the best staff, loves running and is a fierce debater, one of the toughest in the country I'm sure. Bush wont have a chance against him in any debate.
I do not underestimate Bush, he has charm, power, money and political savvy. But look at his record. Yuck. yes the right-wing controls much of the media now but once Kerry stands toe to toe with Bush, people will see who the better man is, Kerry by a longshot. He will also need a southern running mate, or perhaps McCain to win. |
