The pseudo-sophisticated cynical view that nothing can ever get better so why bother trying. No wonder nothing changes for these people. Cynicism and resignation are the enemies of the future. Always have been. Kennedy's chief science officer begged him not to put a date on the moon launch in that famous SOTU speech - he knew it couldn't be done. Everything from the past tells us that Middle East reform cannot happen.
