there's another Dutch Insurance/Bank co. called ABN-Amro - ING is vey similar to it. Don't write Dutch firms off just because they are dutch. I continued to invest in the US despite Enron. There's always black sheep among the honest rest..

It's down so much because Eurozone financial institutions are a mess. Look at Germany's banks. All in the crapper. Only Deutsche Bank - the strongest - stands out. All others are beaten down.

If you want to hold ING for the longer haul, you can't go wrong, it pays interest like a bond. It might even be bought out for some nice profit snap. Just don't expect shortterm wonders. But strategically the Netherlands are way better positioned than Germany where an incapable government is virtually sucking out the last lifeblood of the domestic economy apart from doing nothing.

Certainly you would have to do more DD on ING but it's a good and solid start..
