Poet, Left wing does not have to mean unrealistic. The left now knows that the so called communist ideal of communality(each gives what he can, each takes what he needs)cannot work without some method of resource gatekeeper to make sure that some people do not hog or hoard resources or sit back and do nothing. People show self bias and group bias. This is wired into our genes. Altruism is not so wired in. It seems to me that a minimum wage and benefits of $X and a maximum wage and benefits of 2.5 times X$ would be reasonable. So if the min wage is $10, then max wage is $25 and no-one could strike for more. In a true left wing paradise we would all get $25 each per hour wages and benefits. Lots f laughs for any hope that people would work there when they saw the drones doing nothing getting the same as them. No automatic entitlements. You work efficiently or the workers committe(which will rate your efficiency will have the ability to scale your wages up or down to that $10-25 range. What is to stop the commitete from making all wages $25? Some method of oversight. Rome fell with this kind of system. Can it be made to work? The USSR never had, nor vere was a communist country. It was a simple despotism by the communist party, when simply stole all the resources for themselves and screwed the people. That is why it finally folded. The truth is who will watch the watchers?, is never more true than in any unionesd group. A funny thing happened here in Toronto about 15 years ago. The union got an agreement to pay an extra $1500 per year for each extra teaching course taken, up to a max of 5 courses. These courses were to be 8 weeks long and cover assorted aspects to upgrade teachers. Soon the courses were filled every summer. Tne someone noticed something. The teachers never attended the courses, they just received marks that said they passed etc. and with that document presnted to the board, they got their extra wages. The scandal was found out and they also found out that the teachers who gave the courses destroyed the records 2 weeks after the courses were over every year. Thus it was hard to prove they never attended etc. The government hushed it up, due to the embarrassment of it all. But that is what comes of haveing no-onbe to watch the watchers. Bill
