Poet, Well, we all know what happened to the Democrats. Clinton's much publicised peccaddiloes sucked 5% of the votes from the democrats.= disaster for the democrats, and so Bush got in. So far he has had wide appeal and that is why the Republicans gained ground in the mid terms.
One problem I see is that when Bush says something, it is attacked, even if he is correct. So it is like crying wolf, it becomes common partisan critical rhetoric and it is tuned out. A democrat should not automatically criticise what Bush says, nor should a democrat automatically acclaim every utterance of another democrat....that is more mindlessness. They should think for themselves and say what they believe.
I also feel you need a secret ballot in the Senate and the house. I find it amazing that a common man/woman can vote in private, yet the elected reps must reveal how they vote.
That allows the special interest groups to control them, force them to toe the line, and you know how I feel about that.
Accountability? determined by the candidates ability to answer and respond on the campaign trail. Once he is in he is free to do what he likes. Lobby groups....outlaw them. PACs...outlaw them. Limit campaign contributions to $100, give a $300 tax deduction for a $100 donation. Why not, more poor/middle would donate if the cost was totally offset.
