My Mom is elderly, so rightfully she uses CD's as her primary investment vehicle. Her portfolio's performance makes me look like a piker for the last few years <g> <ng>

But CD interest rates are at historic lows right now. I certainly would look at short-term (6-12 month) CD's as a contingency (to avoid being locked in should rates rise).
