I've posted my experiences with Dell's support here before. Needless to say, it is horrendous. I spoke to a "manager" there once. He had little interest in my problems. As I began to ask questions about his position, it turns out he'd been fired and rehired 3 times. And he says that is typical of Dell's support staff. Somehow, it creates a savings for the company if they rollover staff, allowing people to be unemployed for a set period of time, then rehiring them.
I guess it's a cost savings on benefits or something.
At any rate, he said after the 3rd time, he and most of his coworkers were beginning to not (in his own words) "give a rat's ass". Can't blame them. Little Mikey seems to have done well. But, like all bigwigs (includes the CPQ and HP group), they don't care so much for the line workers... I'm not posting this to "boost" HPQ...I'm sure they've got issues of their own, and not too dissimilar. But Dell isn't all it's cracked up to be. In fact, like MSFT, I'd say it isn't at all what it claims to be.
My favorite computer, to this day, remains my (still running) Micron Pentium. I can't remember how fast it is. Slow by current standards, to be sure. But still a workhorse. One breakdown in 8 years. Replaced the motherboard. Other than that, it's going strong. A friend of mine bought the same computer, going on 7 years for him. No breakdowns. |
